Free agents have been flying off the board early, and not much action from Detroit until Darren Dreger reported that the team is signing goaltender Cam Talbot to a two-year deal at $2.5 million AAV.
Talbot, a former All-Star, had decent numbers with the Los Angeles Kings last season — .913 SV% and a 2.50 GAA in 54 appearances. The contract terms are easily digestible for a productive goaltender like this, even if he’s turning 37 later this week. Detroit now has a three-pronged approach in net with Alex Lyon, Ville Husso, and now Cam Talbot.
Talbot has a been a steady performer throughout his 11 seasons of NHL play — in 486 career apperances, he has a .913 SV%, 2.63 GAA and a record of 245-176-42. So, I guess you could say this is an upgrade over James Reimer.
